Nazca Booby Behavior
Those in our touring group were startled to see this young Nazca Booby fall to the ground and curl up without cause as we passed it by. No other animals on our trip appeared to be quite as responsive to us, bad or good. All was revealed when this adult female (a behavior of childless young female Nazca Boobies) waddled up and attacked the nestling. After less than 60 seconds, in part shown here, she nonchalantly moved on. The little one did not appear any the worse for wear. It was a planned move on the little ones part. Fascinating and without explanation by Naturalists. See Social and Interspecific Behavior.
